Signal Gloves In the News

Signal Corporation International Introduces Revolutionary Traffic Control Products

June 15, 2010 – Evergreen, Colorado.  Signal Corporation International, LLC is now selling patent pending traffic control products designed to maximize user safety. Signal Gloves, Signal Corporation’s flagship product, are lighted traffic control gloves which automatically change color based only on user hand position.

Directing traffic is one of the most dangerous tasks performed by police officers and first responders. With thousands injured or killed each year, the need for real traffic control solutions has never been greater.  Signal Gloves incorporate high intensity LEDs which are visible over ¼ mile. The worse the conditions, the better the officer or first responder is seen.

Signal Gloves are simple to use – each glove works independently. When the user signals traffic to “STOP” with his hand in the upright position, each glove produces a red blinking “X”. Placing either hand in the horizontal position produces green chasing arrows which signal the traffic to proceed in a specific direction. Lowering either glove to the officer’s side causes all lights to turn off on that glove. There are no switches to be concerned about, thereby preventing the user from becoming confused while directing traffic.

“I have been in and around Law Enforcement for over 4 decades in several States, in Europe and southeast Asia and have seen and used significant advances in Traffic Management and Traffic Control over that period of time but these rechargeable LED “Signal Gloves” - have to be among the most significant single application of technology for emergency and temporary traffic control since the advent of the rotating emergency light on emergency response vehicles…”

Signal Corporation International is currently offering two traffic control products in addition to Signal Gloves Signal Safe and Signal Flares. Signal Safe is a strap-on version of Signal Gloves and is designed for users whose primary objective is to be clearly seen by drivers at all times and during normal and adverse conditions. This product may also be strapped on to safety cones or attached to other objects for increased visibility. Signal Flares are the only electronic directional road flares available on the market today. These flares feature breakaway bases which will prevent damage to the lighted unit and vehicles if struck on the roadway. The flares may be positioned to guide traffic in a particular direction or to serve as a warning system for approaching vehicles.

Signal Gloves, Signal Safe, and Signal Flares feature four distinct modes. Signal Mode, as previously described in the description of Signal Gloves, produces arrows or an “X” based on the position of the product; Strobe mode produces continuous flashing lights; Arrow mode produces continuous chasing arrows regardless of product position; and Flashlight mode transforms any of the products into a convenient flashlight. All of Signal Corporation’s products are completely rechargeable using the included wall charger, car charger, and USB cable. This cable may be plugged into any USB port. When fully charged, the products may be used continually for up to ten hours. Each product comes packaged in a durable carrying case.

Renton police officer hit near Harrington fire scene; $2,500 bail set for driver

Renton Reporter Editor - Jun 30 2009

A Renton Police officer was carried about 100 feet on the front end of a Toyota pickup truck Tuesday night after he was hit by the truck while diverting traffic in the Highlands away from the four-alarm apartment fire on Harrington Avenue, according to Renton police.

The officer, Mike Thompson, who has been with the department for about a year, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

"He's going to be OK," said Mayor Denis Law, who was at the scene of both the accident and the four-alarm fire at the Harrington Square Apartments just a few blocks away.

Thompson was treated at Harborview and released.

The driver of the Toyota, a 29-year-old man, was taken into custody for investigation of reckless driving and driving under the influence.

On Wednesday, bail for the man was set at $2,500 in Renton Municipal Court on charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, failure to use a vehicle interlock device and failure to obey a police officer. He was still in Renton Municipal Jail late in the week.

The Police Department’s Traffic Unit conducted the on-scene investigation. The Washington State Patrol also is participating in the investigation.

Thompson was hit at about 9:25 p.m. while directing traffic at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard Northeast and Edmonds Avenue Northeast. The Toyota, southbound on Edmonds, collided with a Honda in the intersection when the driver turned left onto Sunset, failing to yield the right of way, according to Renton Police.

The Toyota continued east on Sunset in the westbound lanes and hit Thompson, who was directing traffic, according to police. Thompson was thrown across the front end of the Toyota and carried approximately 100 feet on the vehicle before he was thrown free, according to police.

Thompson then rolled under the front end of another vehicle stopped in the westbound lanes of Sunset. The Toyota crossed over the center median and into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a parked Renton Police car and came to a stop.

Thompson was treated for his injuries at Harborview and was released several hours later. The drivers of the vehicles involved in the collision were not injured.

Police Officer Hit by Car
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Friday, February 08, 2008

A Bellevue Police Department motorcycle officer was struck by a vehicle while directing Friday evening. He was transported to Overlake Medical Center where he was treated for a fractured leg.

The collision occurred just before 6 p.m. downtown, near the intersection of Northeast Fourth Street and 111th Avenue Northeast. The officer was directing traffic on foot for the Bellevue Fire Department, which had just finished extinguishing a vehicle fire in the parking lot on the Southwest corner of the intersection.

As the Fire Department was preparing to leave with the officer’s assistance, a red 2008 Audi TT came eastbound on Fourth Street. The officer was struck by the front of the vehicle and thrown over the hood and into the street. The driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. There was no immediate indication of drug or alcohol impairment on the part of the driver, a 75-year-old Bellevue resident.

The specific cause of the collision is still under investigation. Fourth Street was closed between 110th and 112th avenues for about three hours. The officer underwent surgery and was expected to be hospitalized for several days. He has approximately nine years of service with the department, about five as a motorcycle officer.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in dark, wet conditions, and use extreme caution around emergency vehicles, road construction and the people working around them.
